MUA Announces Partnership with American University of Sharjah

New collaboration establishes an impactful educational pathway for aspiring physicians in Sharjah, UAE.

GUS Medical Schools – Medical University of the Americas, Saba University School of Medicine and St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine – are proud to announce a new partnership with American University of Sharjah (AUS), which will implement an educational pathway for students in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) who are passionate about medicine and plan to become practicing doctors. Excitingly, science students attending AUS who aspire to enter medical school will now be able to more efficiently pursue one of our 4-year MD programs.

AUS graduates who have successfully completed a Bachelor of Science degree program with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0 grade point scale) will receive streamlined entry to one of our medical schools’ MD programs. As part of the admissions requirements, students must satisfactorily complete an interview, provide at least two letters of recommendation and have completed the required prerequisite classes as part of their undergraduate degree. AUS graduates are also eligible for meaningful grants and scholarships to help support and facilitate their medical school journey.

“This new partnership with GUS Medical Schools is a significant step in our efforts to advance medical education for our students. By establishing pathways to medical schools, we are not only reinforcing our commitment to providing exceptional opportunities but also ensuring that our graduates have the support and resources needed to excel in their medical careers. This agreement is part of our efforts to foster educational excellence and broaden horizons for our students,” said Dr. Mahmoud Anabtawi, Dean of AUS’ College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).

“We are so excited for this partnership with American University of Sharjah. At GUS Medical Schools, we are committed to helping students from around the world achieve their dream of becoming practicing doctors, and this new student pathway will make our quality MD programs even more accessible for AUS Bachelor of Science students. We can’t wait to see everything they will achieve in medicine,” shared Sunina Baboolall, Director of Strategic Partnerships for GUS Medical and Veterinary Schools.

GUS Medical Schools offer education and hands-on training for aspiring doctors and future health care leaders. Our expansive MD program curriculums, individualized support services and committed faculty teams prepare students to succeed as practicing physicians in the U.S., Canada and around the world. Students spend the first half of their MD programs on one of our island campuses for Basic Sciences, and the second half at training hospitals and learning centers in the U.S. or Canada (clinical rotations), where they develop skills and make connections that greatly enrich their future careers.
