New pathway agreement benefits aspiring medical doctors in California.
Medical University of the Americas (MUA) and Saba University School of Medicine (SUSOM) are proud to announce a new partnership with UCSC Silicon Valley Professional Education (UCSC Silicon Valley Extension), which establishes an innovative pathway for students who aspire to live out their passion for healthcare as practicing physicians. Of particular benefit, UCSC Silicon Valley Extension students who successfully matriculate with MUA or SUSOM via the pathway are eligible for a $10,000 USD partnership scholarship to make their MD program education more affordable!
In addition to this beneficial financial support, UCSC Silicon Valley Extension students who meet the pathway requirements will benefit from an expedited application review process, a guaranteed admissions interview, and eligibility for additional grants and scholarships to help support and facilitate their medical school journeys. Eligible students are those who have an overall GPA of 3.4 or higher, a minimum of 90 university-level credits, an overall score of 495 on the MCAT and have met all other minimum admissions criteria, including satisfactory completion of the interview, provision of at least two letters of recommendation and completion of the required prerequisite courses.
“We are thrilled to provide this unique pathway to medical school which will help our students bypass lengthy waiting periods for medical school so they can reach their goals,” said Dr. Deepthi Nair, senior director of the UC Santa Cruz Premed Postbaccalaureate Program. “Our students are highly driven and passionate about becoming doctors. Their success will help alleviate the critical physician shortage in so many communities. This new partnership helps make that dream accessible.”
“We are so excited to announce our partnership with this UC Santa Cruz Extension program. This collaboration will benefit students who aspire to become practicing physicians by granting them an expedited application review, unique scholarship opportunities and a dedicated admissions’ counselor to assist with the enrollment process into either SUSOM or MUA,” said Jeffrey D. Bates, Vice President of Field Recruitment and Business Development, GUS Med & Vet. “When I learned about the commitment UC Santa Cruz Ext has made to help prepare a diverse student population for the rigors of medical school I knew we would make great partners. The dedication both organizations have in helping to alleviate the current doctor shortage is paramount at this time.”
