Pathways to Medicine

MUA offers multiple programs to help a diverse group of aspiring physicians achieve their dreams. With intentionally small class sizes and dedicated faculty, MUA ensures you are on the right path towards becoming a doctor.

4-Year M.D. Program

MUA provides a comprehensive 10-semester program leading to an MD degree. The foundation of our curriculum consists of five semesters of basic sciences, which are taught on our campus in Nevis. 

After completing the basic sciences portion of your medical degree, you will face the USMLE Step 1 exam, a crucial milestone in your medical journey. At MUA, our staff will collaborate with you to develop an individualized academic plan to help you succeed in this important exam.

Upon passing the USMLE Step 1, you will return to the U.S. or Canada to complete five semesters of clinical rotations. These rotations take place at teaching hospitals that are affiliated with MUA, providing valuable hands-on experience.

5-Year B.Sc/M.D. Program

 The five-year Doctor of Medicine pathway is designed for students possessing associates degrees, international baccalaureate diplomas, AS Levels, A Levels, or Irish Leaving Certificate credentials, who require comprehensive foundational science education before embarking on their medical degree journey.

The 5-Year BSc/MD Program is a 1+4 accelerated medical education program. The 3-semester (1-year) pre-medical curriculum is offered on-campus or online, including asynchronously to accommodate students from multiple time zones.  The program is offered three times per year, beginning in January, May, and September.

6-Year BSc/MD Program

6-Year B.Sc/M.D. Program

The 6-Year BSc/MD Program is a 2+4 accelerated medical education program for students who have secondary school credentials (e.g., high school or IGCSE “O-levels”). The 6-semester (2-Year) pre-medical curriculum is offered on-campus or online, including asynchronously to accommodate students from multiple time zones.

This six-year Doctor of Medicine pathway allows you to save two years’ worth of undergraduate tuition, fees and living costs, and you become a physician two years earlier. The program is offered three times per year, beginning in January, May, and September.

MUA Featured Programs

Pre-Medical Master’s Program

The Pre-Medical Master’s Program is an accelerated medical education program for career changers with an undergraduate-level degree and some foundational science coursework. After successfully completing this 2-semester, 8-month program and achieving academic and professional benchmarks, students will gain automatic admission to the Medical University of the Americas MD program and will be awarded a Master’s Degree in Biological Science.

Gateway Medical Program

Gateway Program

The Gateway Medical Program is a 15-week medical school preparatory program offered on-campus or online to students who have been granted conditional acceptance to the Medical University of the Americas. Gateway is offered three times per year.
