Many students with the desire and ability to earn an MD begin the process of applying to medical school, only to discover that they lack the pre-medical education requirements or feel the need to sharpen the skills required to tackle a medical degree program.
This is especially true for students who decide to focus on medicine as a career late in their undergraduate experience or are drawn to medicine after entering the work world.
For these students, Medical University of the Americas offers a comprehensive Pre-Medical Program on its campus in Nevis, taught by MUA faculty, that is specifically designed to provide the missing elements in your pre-medical background and to allow a smooth transition into the Doctor of Medicine Basic Sciences program.
Unlike less comprehensive programs offered elsewhere, MUA’s pre-med program is a full two semesters, and thoroughly prepares students for their medical school coursework. Courses include:
- Principles of General Chemistry
- Medical Terminology
- Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II
- Advanced Organic Chemistry
- Introduction to Cell Biology
"The premed program at MUA was very helpful—and I found the people who went through it had a lot of success."
—Samir Gandhi, MD
2014 MUA Graduate
University of Toronto
One of the hallmarks of the pre-med program is that students who transition into the MD program are confident they can complete the MD program coursework, are familiar with living on Nevis, and have already formed a nucleus of friends and study partners. It’s no wonder that graduates of the MUA Pre-Medical Program are often among MUA’s most successful MD students and graduates.
Students may enter the Pre-Medical Program in the September, January or May semesters. You can find more details here.
U.S. citizens and permanent residents attending or intending to apply for enrollment in the Pre-Medical program have access to a Private Student Loan Program. To learn more, click here to connect to the Financial Aid page.
